Condensing hot water hydronics

In the hot water industry there is a developing approach using condensing boilers to attain higher efficiencies on generating hot water. The success of this approach is vulnerable to the utilization of the hot water. If the temperature of the return water exceeds 140 degrees Fahrenheit the generation cannot employ the condensing boiler process and is no better than a standard boiler system. Additionally, for every degree the return water is less than 140 Fahrenheit the system can attain higher efficiencies. Most of the existing hot water systems are oversized in order to maintain return water temperatures above 140 degrees so that the boiler flue gas will not condense because condensing creates a highly corrosive environment. FCI provides a large lever for the condensing boiler industry to crack open the market where hot water systems are designed for 180° plus hot water supply temperature (HWST), by allowing higher system delta T's.
